Choux’s Wine garden

Cellar gems in the wine garden of Choux

Choux

Choux is a restaurant that has been on my list the past three years. After trying to have dinner at Choux for two times and needing to cancel both times, I was hoping that the third time would be different, and it was!
Due to COVID-19 Choux offers a nice takeaway menu with instruction videos, but in addition thereto it has opened a wine garden. Yes, you are not dreaming: a freakin’ wine garden!

In this wine garden Choux serves some of the most beautiful gems of their wine cellars per glass. So this is the perfect opportunity to sit down on a nice terrace and to enjoy a very good glass of wine! Besides the wine, the terrace is also special for another reason: it is also Choux’s herb garden. So actually almost everything that you are surrounded by is edible!

The garden is a peaceful place in an industrial surrounding: colorful flowers, greens and wooden features, while surrounded by buildings. The people working at Choux are just lovely: great service, very kind and a good addition to the relaxed atmosphere. All this with an open kitchen, because Choux also serves some snacks that go well with their beautiful wines!

The snacks & the wine

I tried a few snacks and these snacks also made me very happy. While I was sitting in the sun, enjoying my wine, I could see the chef preparing my pizza with onion compote, arugula and marigold.

Besides that I had an amazing garlic bread with brie made from Blaarkop milk, that was satisfying to say the least (I got complaints about a garlic smell surrounding me all night, but it was totally worth it!).

The wine that I chose was a Sylvain Bock ‘Faux sans blanc’ vin de France, Ardèche 2018, made from chardonnay and grenache blanc. I will definitely come back to have this wine again and I can totally recommend it. Besides this wine, a lot of other nice wines can be found on Choux’s wine list. For example, an orange wine that I will try next time.

Highlight

The beautiful terrace with extraordinary wines and delicious herbs are unique in Amsterdam. High quality snacks are served that are (partly) made in Choux’s own garden. It is a low key way to taste the Choux standard!

Choux will offer takeaway until further notice and it will open its doors again on 1 July!
