A guide away from tourist traps and to the best that Nice has to offer.

Babel Babel – Brunch & Dinner
Comfort food, local products and an amazing wine list. You will find it all at Babel Babel. Located at the boulevard with a stunning view: the beach, the sea and the view point. Besides that, the interior is trendy and there is a balcony that offers an even more beautiful view. The ultimate place to enjoy a lovely dinner or brunch. We went for a grilled cheese sandwich with chicken and a grilled local fish. Babel Babel serves local fishes that are caught by local fishermen. It’s fresher than fresh!

Café Brindille – Brunch & Dinner
Recently opened and everything but touristy: Café Brindille. All their dishes are made of fresh and local products and, another big plus, homemade. We fell in love with this place because you can really taste that. From a crispy chicken salad and a ceviche for brunch to the tapas in the evening: high quality is maintained. Do not forget to eat their homemade cakes- it is the perfect ending of a nice brunch! Besides food, Brindille also sells dried flower bouquets which look as good as their food tastes.

Cose Cosi – Lunch & Dinner
Pasta e basta! Pasta is the specialty of Cose Cosi. Since Nice is a Mediterranean city, the cuisine you will find in the city will mostly be Italian focused. Cose Cosi knows its way with pasta and how to combine everything. It serves a delicious pasta with squid, ink, peas and mushrooms. It was simply comforting and fresh. You can find Cose Cosi close to beach in one of the cosy allies of vieux Nice.

Le Panier – Dinner
Lovely people, a cute terrace and delicious, fresh, local products; welcome at Le Panier. This is one of the restaurants where I made a reservation upfront and I can highly recommend it, because you simply don’t want to miss out on Le Panier. The menu changes periodically based on the availability of fresh products. We had an exquisit rabbit rillette, a vitello tonnato Le Panier-style, a risotto and the fish of the day. We ended the night with a delicious lemon tart upside-down (highly recommended). Don’t forget to make a reservation, as we have seen how many people were disappointed that evening because they were fully booked.

Comptoir du Marché – Dinner
My favorite restaurant in Nice. Again: high quality food and lovely people. The french cuisine with some fine and nice own interpretations of the chefs. The wine list also contained some delicious gems. In short, Comptoir du Marche is the perfect recipe for a fulfilling evening. We picked a delicious steak tartare and the zucchini flower. I am still dreaming about this zucchini. As main courses we picked the truffle risotto and the duck breast, which were also great choices. We ended the evening with three desserts: pêche melba, panna cotta and and almond tart, because we just did not want this evening full of good food to end. A real must-visit!

Le Restaurant des Rois *
Located outside Nice in Beaulieu-sur-mer you will find Le Restaurant des Rois, a one star Michelin restaurant. The view from the terrace is literally breathtaking as you sit directly next to the sea and you can see two beautiful bays. The cuisine is inventive but classic. Note that this restaurant is very expensive, but also very good. Make sure you had an extensive lunch: we had the 5-course menu, but if you are hungry, that might not be enough. The menu was delicious and the setting made it an evening we will never forget.

Other tips
Beaches in the surroundings that are simply stunning and easy to reach by train:
- Cap d’Ail – Plage Mala
- Èze-sur-mer – Papaya beach (and walk the Nietzsche path to Èze, from which you will have beautiful views)
- Villefranche- sur-mer
Bike through Nice! It has great cycling paths through the city and a cheap cycle rent system called Velo Bleu, for which you can easily register at one of the points and internet.
Day trip to Juan-les-Pins and Antibes, Cannes, St. Tropez, Monaco or Menton.
If you want to go to a beach club at the boulevard of Nice: be there between 9-9.30 a.m. if you want to have a sun bed. If you are late, you will have to lay on one of the many stone beaches of the city, which is not the most comfortable option.

Conclusion
Nice is the perfect getaway: for a weekend, but also for one or two weeks. The city has brilliant restaurants and what I love the most is the service and the local products that are served. French people really take their time to make sure that you will enjoy your dinner. Another big plus: wine is very important, so most great restaurants will have an amazing wine list with many wines by the glass.
After this week I still have a few restaurants that I really need to visit, so that is a great reason to go back soon again!
